Ardakan University was established as "Ardakan Higher Education Center" with the approval of the Council for the Development of Higher Education on May 30, 2009. The institution officially commenced its academic operations in the first semester of the 2009-2010 academic year, admitting students in two undergraduate programs: General Psychology and Guidance and Counseling. On January 8, 2011, following a resolution by the Council for the Development of Higher Education, the center was elevated to the "Ardakan Higher Education Complex" through the integration of the Faculty of Natural Resources of Yazd University. Finally, on March 3, 2013, the institution was upgraded to "Ardakan University."
